Originally by: Elayae Interesting presentation. http://www.slideshare.net/bcousins/paying-to-win There are however 2 big differences here:
- EVE did not start as a free to play model - EVE has a player driven economy -> the new micro transactions shops with items will compete with real businesses that have been set up by players in EVE -> Many businesses in EVE will loose income for they are competing with these shops everywhere -> the shops cannot be driven away by regular in game business PVP methods, I cannot wardecc them, block them or destroy or bankrupt them -> the shops take away fun from the players with 100% business professions in EVE
Problems can be addressed if the basic items come from the player driven economy which are then changed in the shop using blueprints and what not to a new upgraded item. If not then economic activities done by the players are taken out of the game and replaced by these micro transactions shops.
Excellent synopsis of what is wrong with CCP's current iteration of MT items. Now if the new MT store gave out 1 run BPC's for In Game advantage items (and thus needed normal EVE economy goods to be manufactured) the issue would be MUCH less contentious.

Think of the CSM as a baby passifier to keep the customers entertained with the illusion of them being important, as their purpose is to fund CCP's WoW, called WoD.
That's how CCP sees them, that is how I see them. It is called REALITY.
Eve is that child in the family that will always get 2nd attention to their prize baby, WoD. Eve is reaching its lifespan and they are going to jump to WoD and then stick Eve on life support, but one can argue Eve is on life support already. It is obvious, non commitment to features, just enough to get the funding in place (Incarna is a Trojan Horse for that) then once that is in, that it is purpose. Don't expect much more features outside of that track for Eve in future.
Think of Incarna as a TROLLEY DASH around the mall in a competition to get the highest revenue. It's called a BOOST. You go for the BIG ONE, thieves use it in stores, called a BOOSTER BAG, and hit the store HARD, not one or 2 items in the pockets, a HUGE BLOODY METAL TINFOIL BAG and BOOST IT, one massive HIT.
Eve is not CCP's premium product, World of Darkness will be their premium product in their portfolio. Eve is simply a financial tool to get there. Incarna the vehicle for a revenue BOOST. Eve is eight years old, taht is ancient, competitors are comming out, newer. Eve will get more expensive to play, by stealth. Eve is a test bed for Carbon and MT for their premium products in the pipeline.
The reason for all this rage now, is because customers (players) are only NOW starting to REALISE THIS. Some have been saying this for years, they where bashed. Well they were right.
Jesus this is painful but I think I actually agree with this .

Originally by: Psychlo With all that has been said, (and I have not read it all), the quite killer is that a lot of the serious long time players may have reached their breaking point and leave. Not sure about the majority, but HALF the game is the people I play with. The lost of the real players (the ones who understand what this all means), leaves us with a bunch of tards. Cool game mechanics with only tards is still an epic fail. Like a company loosing all its talent, we are loosing the players that really move and shake this game. It is really sad. I hope they fix it, but I am quite concerned that the damage is done as folks move on. I for one am behind the community and have cancelled all but one account to send a clear message to the CEO. . .since he isn't listening to what I say at all.
It's been great time with all of you. I can only hope that we can do it again.
^^This sums up my attitude perfectly, losing accounts is bad enough for CCP, losing older and experienced players is a disaster as these are the players the really influence EVE's sandbox, they are what makes EVE truely great.

In relation to the CSM and Mittens, I did hear him say on Funkybacon's EVE-Radio show last week that should CCP introduce non vanity items for MT he personally, and the Goons collectively were out of EVE, make of that what you will.
I have personally unsubbed my accounts (2) and was awaiting the outcome of the ÇÇP - CSM meeting with regard to what I was going to do, however on reading the posted ÇÇP results for last year I know that EVE as I know and love it is doomed. ÇÇP's collective hubris, and Hilmar's in paticular with regard to taking on the development of 2 new games while thinking to ignore their one and only revenue stream; and them turn around when they got into a financial pickle and try and ass-**** their only customers just beggers belief. With that debt coming due on the 28th of October and with not enough cash or cash-flow to cover it ÇÇP has run out of room to manouver, it's desperate MT gamnble is the only way it see's to save itself. Its desperation is plain to see in the tone of Zulu's two Dev Blogs and in Hilmar's leaked e-mail,
Unfortunately in-game MT, and especially in-game advantage MT strikes a blow at the core of what EVE is abouut, a player driven game, the legendary 'sandbox'. While Jade Constantine make some usefull suggestions in this thread the worry is that once any MT/Aurum items are in game the incentive is for ÇÇP to concentrate on developing for these items only, at the expense of the rest of the game; why develop stuff that players allready pay for when you can develop stuff and get them to pay twice for it. Given ÇÇP's CFO is a bankster who was deeply involved in the recent GFC, the remptation to guoge, and gouge mercilessly will be simply too much to pass up.
Belileve me it pains me deeply to have to say this but my only hope is that enough players will leave EVE to casue its swift death, becasue its survival with what ÇÇP plans for its will turn something I cared for into a ghoulish shadow of its former self, it will call itself EVE but it will be an undead caricature of its former glory.

Want to know why?
Executive summary?
The moneybags behind EVE, or in other word the people who really own ÇÇP.

A base stat scorpion with a paint job is Vanity. There's no advantage to the paint job. No new slots, no added stats. It's just a Vanity item.
Ahh my firend you miss the point completely, this Gold Scorp comes to you by magic for $$$, no minerals mined from the game, no loot refined from the game, no BPO researched, no BPC's copied, no production slots occupied making it, no player involved shipping it to market etc, etc, etc. and no player getting ISK for its production. So while it is technicaly a 'vanity item' its effect is game breaking.

Erh... technically ÇÇP's COO has broken their silence, but all he did was blubber to some Icelandic mag about how horrible EVE players were and that they did not understand ÇÇP, oh and that ÇÇP was not going to listen to their playerbase etc.
